KSU EL accepting nominations

Kent State University at East Liverpool is accepting nominations for its Lifetime Achievement Award and the Friends of the Kent State East Liverpool Award. The deadline for nominations is March 28. The Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes Kent State graduates or former students for their professional accomplishments and community involvement. Nominees must have attended and/or received a degree from the East Liverpool Campus. The Friends of Kent State University at East Liverpool Award honors individuals who work to improve the community and who support the university’s mission to provide quality education to the tri-state area. Anyone can nominate individuals for these awards. To request a nomination form, call 330-382-7430 or at email tsmit170@kent.edu. Nomination forms are also available at the reception desk in Purinton Hall, located at 400 E. Fourth St. Award recipients will be recognized at the campus awards banquet on May 1 at the East Liverpool Masonic Lodge. The event will also honor students for their academic and community service achievements.

Burn ban in effect

Local fire departments remind residents that Ohio’s burn ban is in effect from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the spring during the months of March, April and May.

Free meals in East Liverpool

The Community Resource Center of East Liverpool will offer free hot meals today and Friday. The meals are carry-out and there are no requirements. Pizza and salad will be served today with quesadillas and rice on Friday’s menu. The meals are available from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at 940 Pennsylvania Ave. in East Liverpool. Business seminars

Village of Lisbon continues its partnership with the Rural Community Assistance Program and the Small Business Development Center at Youngstown State University with two free business seminars set for April 3 and April 10. Both seminars will be held at the Days Inn in Lisbon located at 40952 state Route 154 in Lisbon. Registration is required for the free workshops and can be done through a QR code found at Lisbon Mayor Peter Wilson’s facebook page.

East Liverpool lecture series

The East Liverpool Community Center’s Lecture Series will continue on Tuesday at 7 p.m. with light snacks served at 6:30 pm. Matthew Smith, Ohio Department of Natural Resources Scenic River Manager, will talk about the Hellbender Restoration Program, currently underway in Columbiana County. He will also talk about the many activities available at Hellbender Bluff Park.

Glenview decorations removal

All flowers and decorations at Glenview Cemetery in East Palestine must be removed by March 15 or they will be discarded. Spring and summer decorations may be put on the graves as of April 1. For cemetery information call 330-426-4367 Ext. 19.

All flowers and decorations at Crest Haven Memorial Gardens, New Waterford, must be removed by March 15 or they will be discarded. Spring and summer decor (two items max) may be put on graves on April 1.

American Legion fish fries

The Columbiana American Legion Post 290 will hold weekly beer batter fish fries every Friday during lent from 4 to 7 p.m. Cost is $15 and will include one piece of fish and choice of two sides (cole slaw, mac and cheese, French fries). Drive thru or eat in available.

Museum March set for March 28

The Museum of Ceramics and the Upper Ohio Valley Museum and Learning Center at the Lou Holtz Hall of Fame will sponsor a Museum March from 6 to 8 p.m. March 28. The event also includes three other historic buildings and museums, the East Liverpool Fire Department, the Roberts House Inn, and the Thompson House. The night begins at the Museum of Ceramics where attendees will receive a map and their ticket. Tickets will be “punched” at each location. Participants can tour the different sites in any order and return to the Museum of Ceramics at 8 p.m. with their punched tickets to be eligible to win a gift basket and attend a reception with light refreshments. Tickets are $20 in advance and can be purchased by calling the MoC at 330-386-6001 or the Hall of Fame at 330-386-5443. Tickets can also be purchased directly at the Hall of Fame.
