CCCTC graduating above average STNAs

LISBON — The Columbiana County Career and Technical Center (CCCTC) is graduating above average State Tested Nurse Aides.

Keli Jones, RN, ADN, reported to the CCCTC Board of Education this month on the progress being made in the STNA class of the adult education department.

Jones is the adult education instructor for the class and said during her presentation the career center goes above and beyond the state requirements to ensure they are graduating the very best candidates for those jobs.

According to information provided by CCCTC Public Relations Co-Coordinator Elizabeth Wright, the state of Ohio requires 75 hours while the career center requires 88 hours.

Of the 75 hours required by the state, 59 hours must be dedicated to skills and theory which is performed in the classroom and 16 hours must be dedicated to clinical time in the job field.

Of the 88 hours the career center requires 72 hours are dedicated to skills and theory and 16 are dedicated to clinical time.

In addition, the state of Ohio requires students to earn a 70 percent exam score to pass and become certified while the CCCTC requires an 80 percent exam score to pass and become certified.

Jones outlined these requirements to the board during her presentation.

“They want the students to be well prepared and versed in the necessary knowledge to be successful in the field,” Wright said.
