Work being done to BLSD track
LISBON — Work is being done to repair the Beaver Local School District track.
District Superintendent Eric Lowe said during the recent board of education meeting that the repair work cost around $4,500 and will add more years to the life of the track.
The work is being done by Current Surfaces on a few areas of the track and Lowe said the company informed him that the track is in very good shape for its age.
“They feel that the district will get at least five years out of the track and could possibly get up to 10 more years of use out of the track,” he said.
Lowe also said in his report to the board that the Science of Reading curriculum continues to be vetted by teachers.
They have received quotes and are also considering that information as one company is significantly more in cost than the other two companies, he said.
“The district will still have a sizable cost after the state reimbursement for the materials. Staff input is continuing to be collected at this time,” he added.
Lowe also took time to thank the show choir, Beaver Local band and Beaver Local High School and middle school choir for their work in getting out in the community during the holiday season.
He said that the connections they make with community members are appreciated and showcase some of the outstanding musical talent the district has.
Additionally, Lowe noted that January is School Board recognition month and thanked the board members for their service.
“The district is fortunate to have committed members who have communication which allows them to work through items in the district,” Lowe said.
He added that in his last nine years as superintendent he witnessed the board’s working relationship with the schools and their continuing efforts to “make Beaver Local a great place to be.”
Prior to the meeting a reorganization meeting was held in which Greg Eisenhart was elected board president and John Campbell was elected vice president for the year.
Meetings will continue to be held on the second Monday of each month at 7 p.m. in the 8th grade pod.
Board member Jerry Barnett was selected as OSBA liaison for 2025 to act as a link between the state association and the local board of education. Greg Eisenhart was selected as the OSBA student achievement liaison for 2025.
