Wellsville man charged with obstructing justice in fatal shooting
LISBON — A Wellsville man was charged recently with obstructing justice for allegedly lying to police on Sept. 10, 2024 regarding the Sept. 9, 2024 shooting death of Robert E. Herron.
Brandon Kessler, 41, 10th Street, was charged with the third-degree felony by the Columbiana County Grand Jury and was served with the secret indictment on Friday.
“He was definitely not truthful in some of the statements he gave to investigators,” county Prosecutor Vito Abruzzino said, adding that “he fabricated events.”
Jeno Wall, 34, Steubenville, remains incarcerated under a $1 million cash or surety bond, after being charged with unclassified felonies of aggravated murder and murder and third-degree felony intimidation of an attorney, victim or witness in a criminal case, along with firearm specifications for allegedly using a firearm to cause Herron’s death.
A press release issued by Abruzzino and Wellsville Police Chief Ed Wilson when the indictment was issued against Wall in December said, “Shortly after 11:30 p.m. on Sept. 9, 2024, officers from the Wellsville Police Department responded to a call of possible shots fired on Tenth Street. Officers found Herron fatally wounded behind a residential garage.”
A jury trial was set April 8 for Wall, with a final status hearing set for 11:20 a.m. March 31.
According to Abruzzino, he could face life in prison without the possibility of parole if convicted of aggravated murder. He could face a mandatory three years for each of the two firearm specifications.
Bond for Kessler was set at $50,000 cash or surety.
