LISBON -- Incumbent Monica Robb Blasdel ran away with the 79th District race as voters in Columbiana and Carroll counties overwhelmingly re-elected the Republican as their state representative in Tuesday's general election.
Blasdel, 41, of Columbiana, defeated Democratic challenger Dan Votaw of Leetonia to retain her seat in the Ohio House of Representatives.
"I'm looking forward to getting back to Columbus to finish out this general assembly and excited for next year," Robb Blasdel said after the final results rolled in. "I am just ready to get back to work."
The 79th District covers all of Carroll County and most of Columbiana County. According to complete, but unofficial results from the Columbiana County Board of Elections, Robb Blasdel received 30,935 votes for 73.68 percent while Votaw received 11,052 votes for 26.32 percent. Unofficial, but complete results from Carroll County, show Blasdel received 9,993 votes for 77.39 percent to Votaw's 2,920 votes for 22.61 percent.
Robb Blasdel has filled the seat since it was vacated due to term limits of Tim Ginter, who held four-terms in Ohio Fifth District before the 79th House District was established. Blasdel defeated democratic opponent Taylor Eastham, in 2022 to become the first representative of the 79th District.
Robb Blasdel serves on the House Finance Committee, the Finance Subcommittee on Transportation, is the Chair of the Pensions Committee and Vice Chair of Public Utilities and also serves on the Energy and Natural Resources Committee and the Families & Aging Committee.
Robb Bladel looks forward to serving Columbiana and Carroll counties in her second term, delivering on promises made and strengthening the future of those in the 79th District. She expressed gratitude to her supporters for allowing her to do that.
"I just want to thank the voters of Columbia and Carroll counties for having faith in me and allowing me to be their voice," Robb Blasdel said. "I look forward to serving again in this role for the next two years."
Robb Blasdel is a lifelong resident of Columbiana County. She and her husband, Chuck Blasdel, reside in Columbiana with their two daughters, Presley and Raegan.
