New firefirghters

Jesse Szmara, third from left, a 2023 Columbiana High school graduate, was recently sworn in as one of six new firefighters with the Youngstown Fire Department. Szmara was a captain of the Columbiana football team in 2022 and 2023 and graduated from the Ohio Fire Academy in Columbus. Szmara follows in the footsteps of his father, Ben Szmara, a lieutenant with the Youngstown Fire Department the past 25 years. Both are residents of Columbiana. (Submitted photo)
