By KRISTI R. GARABRANDT 2 min read

ST. CLAIR TOWNSHIP -- Township trustee James Sabatini provided an update on the slip repair for Midland Fredericktown Road during Monday's St. Clair Township Board of Trustees meeting.

According to Sabatini, bids for the slip repair were opened by the Columbiana County Engineer's Office on Oct. 16. Two bids were submitted for the project -- one in the amount of $857,262.38 by Mike Pusateri Excavating Inc. and one by S.E.T in the amount of $1,680,000. With the original engineer's estimate for the project being $861,853.00, the bid is being awarded on Oct. 23 to Pusateri Excavating Inc.

The work on the slip repair is scheduled to begin on Nov. 20 and be completed April 1, 2025.

According to Sabatini, during the repair the road will be cut back 20 feet to create a plateau. Moving the road over is the best option, Sabatini said, as it puts the road on more secure ground.

A major portion of the expense for the repair will be paid for by grant money.

Sabatini also noted that the Columbiana County Land Bank has scheduled the razing of the vacant house trailer located at 49040 Calcutta Smith Ferry Road. The razing will be done by Yarian Brothers Construction.

The trustees approved the purchase of a 21-foot tilt trailer from Bennett Sales in Salem at a cost of $22,023 for the road department.

Also approved was the replacement of the damaged garage door at the township government building.

According to Chairman Jordan Williams, the $4,059 cost to replace the garage door is being paid for by grant funding. Williams also noted that the door needs to be replaced since replacement parts for it are unavailable.

Approval was also given to Fiscal Officer Deborah Dawson to request the county auditor to increase appropriations.

Purchase orders totaling $45,028.23; super blanket certificates totaling $2,677.13 and bills totaling $142,609.90 were approved for payment.

The St. Clair Halloween Parade will be held on Oct. 26 at 1 p.m., with registration beginning at noon in front of Busy Beaver.

Trick or Treat will be Oct. 31 from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

The St. Clair Township Board of Trustees meets every other Monday at 4 p.m. at the township government building. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Nov. 4. The meetings usually take place in the back of the building in the community room but due to election set up taking place on Nov. 4, that meeting will be held in the front meeting room.
