Driver life-flighted from combine derby

LIBSON -- A driver who was ejected from machinery during the combine derby at the Columbiana County Fair on Sunday afternoon is in stable condition.

Media partner WBKN reported the identified man will undergo surgery on his jaw.

Witnesses said the driver was ejected and appeared to strike his head. The man was wearing a helmet and it is unclear if or how his seatbelt, which are required, failed.

The man was taken by ambulance to the top of the fairgrounds where he was flown to the hospital by helicopter.

The combine derby was stopped during the accident and was eventually canceled. The annual car demolition derby was held later on Sunday evening.
