The Winona Fire Department offered an equipment demonstration Tuesday to the Goshen Butler Township Community Fund, one of several community organizations making contributions for the purchase of a powered cot and load system. This will allow the department to more efficiently and safely assist residents while helping to prevent back injuries. It was paid for in part by a three-to-one $40,000 Ohio Bureau of Workman's Compensation Safety Intervention Grant, obtained through the joint efforts of the fire department and the Butler Township trustees. The remaining $22,452 was funded through department fundraisers like the department's bi-annual pancake breakfast and chili cookoff and donations from community organizations, including about $6,500 from the community fund. Other donations came from the Salem Eagles 316, Lisbon VFW Post 411, Washingtonville VFW Post 5532, the Leetonia American Legion, Salem AMVETS Post 45 and Nick Mlinarcik, and fundraising from the Cruisin' Crew's car show last April.
