ALLIANCE -- The following University of Mount Union students were acknowledged at the institution's annual Senior Recognition and Honors Convocation.
Adam McMillen, of Alliance, was awarded The Hubert R. Pinney Senior Award in the School of Business at the 2024 Mount Union Honors Convocation. This prize is given annually to the student who has demonstrated the best overall academic record in the school.
Addyson Jones, of Homeworth, was awarded The Jill Herrick Teacher Scholarship at the 2024 Mount Union Honors Convocation. This scholarship was established in commemoration of the 35th anniversary of Jill Herrick's graduation (June 1965) from Mount Union College. This scholarship is available to one or two full-time undergraduate junior or senior students, majoring in Education. Preference will be for students planning to teach children ages 3-14 and for those who have a genuine love of children, a strong sense of commitment to children and their education and be dedicated to the teaching profession. The recipients have interviewed for this award and have been chosen by a scholarship selection committee.
Aiden Trummer, of Alliance, was awarded The Judge Phillips Pre-Law Prize at the 2024 Mount Union Honors Convocation. This prize is awarded to an outstanding pre-law student at the conclusion of his or her junior year. The selection is based on scholarship, promise of future success, and character.
Amelia Holt-Hoskins, of Alliance, was awarded The Good Citizenship Prize at the 2024 Mount Union Honors Convocation. This prize is presented each year to a graduating senior for overall excellence in qualities of personality and leadership, contributing to community welfare and national progress.
Andrew Datz, of Alliance, was awarded The Gordon L. Wable Memorial Prize at the 2024 Mount Union Honors Convocation. This prize is awarded to a worthy physical education major who plans to enter the field of football coaching.
Eden Walker, of Beloit, was awarded The Cecil T. and Marian H. Stewart Award at the 2024 Mount Union Honors Convocation. The Cecil T. and Marian H. Stewart Award is awarded to a music major who has excelled in choral conducting.
Jillian Zamarelli, of Beloit, was awarded The Dean Taylor Leadership Scholarship at the 2024 Mount Union Honors Convocation. This prize is awarded to a student entering the junior year who is in good academic standing, shows leadership through involvement with campus organizations, exhibits good citizenship, and believes in the University's Mission.
Julia Griffin, of Alliance, was awarded The Oscar W. and Viola H. Dunn Bible Prize, The Richard L. and Connie VanderMeulen Doyle Prize at the 2024 Mount Union Honors Convocation. This prize is awarded to that student who is of highest rank in the field of Bible study for the year.; This prize is awarded to a student who shows great promise in the field of history.
Katlyn Zurbrugg, of Alliance, was awarded The American Institute of Chemists Award at the 2024 Mount Union Honors Convocation. This prize is awarded to an outstanding graduating senior who has the best record in chemistry or biochemistry.
Marissa Scott, of Winona, was awarded The Eric A. and Mary W. Eckler English Prize, The Maria Leonard Book Award at the 2024 Mount Union Honors Convocation. This prize is awarded to a senior majoring in English language and literature whose scholarship in this area has been most outstanding.; This award is given to the senior member(s) of Alpha Lambda Delta with the highest grade point average.
Michael Shields, of Alliance, was awarded The Alumni Computer Science Prize at the 2024 Mount Union Honors Convocation. This prize is awarded to one or more outstanding students majoring in computer science who have achieved junior status.
Sarah Adkins, of Beloit, was awarded The William H. McMaster, Jr. Senior English Prize at the 2024 Mount Union Honors Convocation. This prize is awarded annually to that senior who is the most outstanding student in English literature.
Sidney Rambo, of East Palestine, was awarded The James H. Wuske Endowed Prize at the 2024 Mount Union Honors Convocation. This prize is awarded to a deserving student athlete who participates in track and field, excels in the classroom, plans a career in teaching and coaching, and demonstrates the values and work ethic displayed by the coach.
UMU Choirs
Spring Concert
The University of Mount Union Concert Choir, Cantus, Kantorei and Voce Bassa, under the direction of Beth Polen, presented a spring concert entitled, "Homecomin" April 26 and 27. "Homecomin" included pieces by Kyle Pederson, Moira Smiley, Gustav Holst and Nadia Boulanger, among others. Amy Haines served as the collaborative pianist.
