Communities come together for Day of Prayer

EAST LIVERPOOL -- Residents in East Liverpool and Wellsville gathered Thursday morning to celebrate Day of Prayer .
In East Liverpool approximately 100 people gathered at the East Liverpool Area Community and Learning Center for breakfast, fellowship and prayer.
With the theme for the 73rd Annual Day of Prayer being "Lift up the Work, Light up the World," pastors from area churches focused prayers on family/youth, the community, the nation, the world, the local church and the global church. Rev. Matt Llewellyn prayed for Family/Youth;Rev. Mike Dyer for community; Rev. Ian Leyda for nation; Rev. Eric Andres for world; Rev. James Massie for local church; and Rev. David Quillen for Global Church.
The welcome and invocation was given by Rev. Greg Mead with closing remarks and benediction given by Rev. Ernest Peachey. In between, the ELCS Praise Team sang "In Christ Alone" and "The Blessing" Special music was also performed by Llewellyn and Kevan Cunningham. Cunningham sang "We've Got to Get America Back to God".
The keynote speaker was Rev. Roylin Pettis III, First Baptist Church of Wellsville.
A second Day of Prayer service for the city was held at the East Liverpool City Hall.
In Wellsville, about 15 people gathered at the Flood Wall at the village entrance and formed a prayer circle with each person praying about the issues on their minds and in their hearts.
Prayers were said asking for faith, for the land and waterways, for Wellsville, for the country and the world, the divisions in race, gender and religion. Prayers were also said for Israel, protestors, hostages and those who have lost their lives and for salvation.
The prayer session wrapped up with everyone singing "Hallelujah" and saying the "Lord's Prayer."
Wellsville has been gathering for Day of Prayer for over 20 years. Residents used to gather at the gazebo, but when parking became limited, they moved to the flood wall since it was the entrance into the village.
Larry Wolf of Elevate Worship Center and of the Wellsville Area Ministerial Association said he never used to pray much when he was younger but after getting older, he realized when you start praying it gets results. He prays for his protection, his blessing and the schools.
"Prayer is always important and for the community, it's important to lift the community and ask the lord for protection and his blessing on the community," said Terry McEwen, First Baptist Church in Wellsville and treasurer for the Wellsville Area Ministerial Association. "Prayer is always important."
