Best pizza challenge

Seven local pizza venues vied Tuesday for the title of Best Pizza in Columbiana. The challenge was held at the high school. The well-attended event was sponsored by The Historical Society of Columbiana and Fairfield Township and the Columbiana Christian Ministerial Association. Local merchants and groups donated 30 raffle baskets. Ticket holders voted for the "Peoples Choice Award." A panel of local judges participated in a blind-test tasting, awarding ribbons for "Best Pepperoni Pizza" and "Best Specialty Pizza." For the Columbiana Area Pizza Challenge, the Judges' Choice winners were: first place, R' Pizza Place, Columbiana; second place, Pizza Joe's, Columbiana; third place, Fox's Pizza Den, Columbiana. For the "Peoples Choice" top finishers were: first place, R' Pizza Place, Columbiana; second place, Mary's Pizza, Lisbon; third place, Fox's Pizza Den, Columbiana. Proceeds from the Pizza Challenge will benefit the Historical Society's special projects committee "Fix the Sticks." The historic 1890 stick-style chapel located in the Columbiana Cemetery is entering its final phase - the interior. Estimated cost of the final phase is $50,000. The restoration contractor is Jim Santini, builder. Donation's of any amount can be written to the "City of Columbiana" with "Fix the Sticks" in the memo line. The city address is 28 E.
