Lilacs in bloom at Firestone Park

COLUMBIANA - The sweet aroma of lilacs will fill the air Thursday, May 2, at the Lilac Strolling Garden at the Idabelle Firestone Gathering Place and Garden at Firestone Park during a noon luncheon program celebrating "Lilacs Then and Now."
Skip McCullough, owner of Meadowbrook Nursery of Lisbon, will be the featured speaker, calling on his over 40 years of experience in garden design and horticulture to give a tour of the garden and to offer information about the history and cultivation of the rich variety of lilac bushes planted in the Lilac Stroll Garden on the grounds of Idabelle's hilltop Gathering Place in the park.
This is the first in a series of garden events in collaboration with the newly formed Firestone Park Cultural and Custodial Committee, the Columbiana Women's Club and the Columbiana Green Thum Garden Club to be held at the outdoor amphitheater dedicated to the memory of avid gardener, Idabelle Smith Firestone, wife of Harvey S. Firestone, Columbiana's famous native son and benefactor of the park in his name.
Guests may make reservations for both the noon luncheon and the program, or for just the program, which begins at 12:30 p.m.
A catered turkey, ham and cheese club-sandwich menu including seasonal fruit, fresh tomatoes and cucumbers in balsamic dressing, a cold pasta salad, mixed olives, a brownie dessert and beverages will be served.
