SMITH TOWNSHIP (WKBN) - A person who was killed after being hit by a car in Smith Township has been identified as an Austintown woman.
A release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol says Catherine Ruggly, 48, was walking east on Alliance Sebring Road near Oyster Road when she was struck by a vehicle just after 9 p.m. Wednesday. Troopers say the unidentified vehicle came to a brief stop and then left the scene traveling east toward Sebring.
OSHP said Ruggly landed in a ditch after she was hit and was transported to the hospital. She was pronounced dead just before 2 a.m. Thursday.
The unidentified vehicle is an SUV, possibly silver in color, and could have damage to its front right area.
Police said parts of the suspect's vehicle were located at the scene and the investigation is ongoing.
