Commissioners approve Perry annexation

By MARY ANN GREIER 2 min read

LISBON -- After a one-week delay, Columbiana County commissioners approved an expedited annexation of 16.207 acres of land from Perry Township into the northwest area of the city of Salem on Wednesday.

Salem Mayor Cyndi Baronzzi Dickey was in attendance at the meeting, explaining that the owner of the property, J & M Builders and Land Improvements, LLC, will extend Hickory Lane to the U.S. Route 62/state Route 45 bypass near Goshen Road and Jennings Avenue and build 29 new homes.

She said the owner needed city water and sewer for the development.

The land is located off of the U.S. Route 62/state Route 45 bypass, just east of Jennings Avenue and Goshen Road and backs up to Hickory Lane, off of Meadow and Springdale Street, and property owned by George S. Wilson.

The annexation had been on last week's meeting agenda for approval, but Commissioner Mike Halleck said commissioners received a phone call from someone concerned about the utilities, so they held off to get some answers.

He said there may have been a misunderstanding.

Dickey said there had been a landowner who was contacted about a small area of their land for drainage, but the company found another solution.

She told commissioners that they can call her anytime they have questions.

Halleck noted there was no one in attendance who was opposed to the annexation. The vote was 3-0.

Dickey said city council will have to vote to accept the annexation and provide services.

In other business, the commissioners gave permission for the Lisbon Area Chamber of Commerce to use the downtown courthouse parking lot for a classic car show that will be held from noon to 3 p.m. May 18 prior to the concert on the square.

The next commissioners' meeting will be held at 9 a.m. May 1 in the board room at the downtown courthouse.

Starting at /week.
