CANFIELD - The Valley STEM + ME2 Academy, located within the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center, has renewed the STEM Designation for an additional five years, sanctioned by the Ohio STEM Committee. This prestigious redesignation highlights the institution's unwavering commitment to pioneering STEM education methodologies and fostering innovative learning environments.
Since its inception, Valley STEM Academy has been at the forefront of transformative education, integrating authentic inquiry-based learning approaches and leveraging cutting-edge technology to inspire the next generation of STEM leaders. Valley STEM Superintendent & Mahoning County Career and Technical Center Director, Dr. Mara Banfield, recognizes the school's dedication to cross-content integration and technological application, which has garnered statewide recognition.
Banfield expressed her gratitude, stating, "Valley STEM students and staff inspire me on a daily basis with their cross-content integration and use of technology in STEM education. This additional 5-year designation is validation of the hard work and dedication of the staff and students. We are grateful for the partnerships and guidance of the Ohio STEM Learning Network (OSLN) and Department of Education and Workforce (DEW), throughout our eight years serving students."
Valley STEM Academy, the pioneering STEM-designated school in Mahoning County, embarked on its journey serving students in the 2016-2017 academic year. The program educates students in 9th and 10th grades from Mahoning County and surrounding areas. Upon completion of their sophomore year, students transition to the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center for their junior year, where they can opt for one of 20 career pathways, further enriching their educational journey and fulfilling their college and career aspirations.
