American Legion nominations
Alfred H. Wedgewood American Legion Post 374 will have their first nominations for the 2024-2025 officers. The nominations will be held at the post home, 1824 Parkway Ave., East Liverpool March 18 at 6 p.m.
Jigsaw Puzzle Tournament
The Greenford Community Library will host a Jigsaw Puzzle Tournament from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. April 14 at the Quaker City Eagles 316, 1884 N. Ellsworth Ave., Salem. Individuals, pairs and teams of up to four will compete against each other by trying to complete their jigsaw puzzle first. Trophies will be awarded for the top 3 places in each class. The overall winner of each class will receive a cash prize. Cost is $15 for individuals, $20 for pairs and $30 for teams. Cash prize amount will be determined by the number of entrants in each class. Lou Holtz Scholarship
Applications are now available for the Lou Holtz Life Improvement Scholarship. This is a tuition award that is payable directly to a one-to two year trade school and is open to students who attend a high school in the Upper Ohio Valley. Applications are available form school guidance counselors or by contacting the Upper Ohio Valley Museum and Learning Center at the Lou Holtz Hall of Fame 330-386-5443. The application deadline is April 15.
Health and Resource Fair
The AmeriCorps Seniors/RSVP program will be hosting a Health and Resource Fair at the Lisbon Church of the Nazarene Fellowship Hall from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday. Stop by to learn about area senior resources and volunteer opportunities. Health screenings, door prizes and refreshments to be included. Cancer support group
Community members facing the challenges of a cancer journey can gain encouragement and understanding of this disease during a free support group hosted by University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center at Salem Regional Medical Center (SRMC). The group's next monthly meeting will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. Friday in SRMC's Oncology Conference Room, located on the hospitals second floor, past the Cancer & Infusion Center on the left-hand side. SRMC's Cancer Support Group is open to anyone in the community in cancer treatment and cancer survivors. Sessions offer education and emotional support for people with any type of cancer. Attendees are asked to check in at the Oncology Department front desk before entering the meeting. There is no cost to participate, but pre-registration for the meetings is required. Wellsville schools registration
Wellsville Local Schools has announced Kindergarten and Preschool registration procedures. Registration will be held at Garfield School March 27 from noon 2:30 p.m., March 28 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., and April 27 from 9 a.m. to noon. For information call the school secretary, Mrs. Reed, or the school nurse, Mrs. Skrinjar, at 330-532-3301. In order to register for kindergarten, children must be 5 years old on or before Aug. 1, 2024. Preschool children must be at least 4 years old by Oct. 1, 2024. For those families interested in the Preschool Program and their students are 3 years old or turning 5 years old after Aug. 1 they may come in to see what they might be eligible for. Children do not need to attend the registration process. In addition, those families registering for kindergarten or preschool must bring the following: official birth certificate that has the raised seal affixed; immunization or shot records; custody papers, if applicable; proof of residency (i.e. deed, rental agreement, tax statement, voter registration card, current utility bill). Open enrollment students are welcome and accepted for all programs.
