LISBON -- The Columbiana County Board of Developmental Disabilities (CCBDD) approved a new mission statement for the Robert Bycroft School during its regular meeting Wednesday.
The mission statement reads: "At Robert Bycroft School, our mission is to create a unified educational community in which honest communication, steadfast support, and utmost respect prevails. We uphold kindness, patience, and empathy as core values as we work collaboratively to provide the individualized instruction necessary for each student to reach their fullest potential."
The board authorized the Ohio Mid-Eastern Regional Education Service Agency (OME-RESA), through the procurement group Ohio School Consortium, to issue a request for proposals "for the purchase of natural gas service from the best bidder to the consortium and authorizing the board to purchase competitive retail natural gas service from such bidder," the resolution reads.
Also on Wednesday, the board approved a $3,000 sponsorship for the northeast branch of The Arc of Ohio annual training on April 26.
"Let me tell you, this is a very good advocacy convention," CCBDD Superintendent William Devon said.
He said the board has sponsored the event since its inception and there will be families and speakers at the training.
The Arc of Ohio is a grassroots organization which "advocates for human rights, personal dignity and community participation of individuals with developmental disabilities through legislative and social action, information and education, local chapter support, and family involvement," according to the group's website.
The board also approved a $2,500 sponsorship of the FCA All Abilities Camp July 26-27.
"This is a summer camp for people with disabilities," Devon said.
The camp will be held at Malone University in Canton and the sponsorship will allow anyone who is served by the board's program to attend the camp with all expenses paid, Assistant Superintendent Josh Martin said.
A purchase of a preschool assessment tool and preschool curriculum from Frogstreet for $9,228.12 was approved by the board.
The annual CCBDD staff vs. Comets basketball classic will be held at 6 p.m. March 28 at the David Anderson Jr. Sr. High School gymnasium.
The CCBDD Spring Dance will be held at Eleanor Acres in Lisbon from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. April 12.
The Ability Walk and Roll will be held at Eastwood Field Aug. 10.
The next meeting of the CCBDD will be held at its offices in Lisbon at 4 p.m. April 17.
