ST. CLAIR TOWNSHIP -- St. Clair Township Police Chief Brian McKenzie asked the St. Clair Township trustees during Monday's meeting to allow him to declare a vacancy in the police department so he can look to hire another officer.
The vacancy was created by the resignation of Officer George Anderson who is going to another agency.
McKenzie said he attended the Ohio Township Association conference with the trustees and learned that there are 18 pending bills in the State House on the new marijuana law.
The trustees approved the chief's request to pay $11,897.97 to Lexipol, which is a knowledge management system that can track officer training to help the department get certified through the Ohio Collaborative. The system sends officers training to keep them refreshed on the policies of the department. This is a system the department has used for several years.
The chief presented the trustees with the police department's stats for January 2023 and January 2024 for comparison and a year-end stats report for 2023.
Road Supervisor Scott Barrett gave the trustees a list of possible roads to consider for this year's chip and seal program.
Trustee Jordan Williams gave an update on the Midland Fredericktown Road slip repair and said that the Geotech Exploration Phase by Gannett Fleming is 50% complete.
The trustees approved a request for the Culvert Grant from the Columbiana County engineer in the amount of $1,000, a resolution for the OPERS Conversion Plan, an application to work within the township right of way of Duke Road for Sigma Technologies on behalf of AEP to replace utility poles and an acknowledgment of a new residential subdivision.
They tabled a resolution to approve a contract with EverBrite for power sweeping in the township when Barrett said he knew someone else who was also interested in submitting a bid.
Purchase orders in the amount of $204,973.57, blanket certificates in the amount of $75,410 and bills in the amount of $113,028.13 were approved for payment.
The township offices will be closed on Feb. 19 in observance of Presidents Day.
The St. Clair Township trustees meet every other Monday at 4 p.m. in the Peter Metrovich Community Room in the back of the Administration Building. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Feb. 26.
