Project Dawn to provide Narcan training to Wellsville Schools

WELLSVILLE — Project Dawn will be coming into the school district to meet with the administration Thursday, Wellsville School Superintendent Richard Bereschik told the Wellsville Board of Education during Monday’s board meeting. On March 28, Project Dawn will hold a district wide training with the school district for how to spot if Narcan is needed and allow the school to have it readily available to administer.

Training will be done for all three schools with the first group being trained consisting of the administrators, the nurses and athletic directors.

Coaches will undergo training during the March in-service.

Bereschik also said he is continuing to work on the administration guidelines for the administering of Narcan.

Automated Logic will be coming into the schools to try to get all the heating issues fixed so everything can be controlled by a computer like it’s supposed to be.

The board presented the proposed 2024-2025 school calendar which has been submitted for review with copies are available in the superintendent’s office.

The board approved a motion to adding tuition reimbursement to the contracts of each building principal, the curriculum coordinator and the treasurer giving them the same education opportunity as the teachers. The reimbursement is for a maximum of nine credits per school year in the amount of $200 per credit. The credits must be directly related to their current duties.

During the new business portion of the meeting board members approved the following donations: the Varsity & Reserve Cheer Cheer Account, $90; Varsity & Reserve Cheer Welch, $40; Varsity & Reserve Cheer Spann, $300; Varsity & Reserve Cheer Jarvis, $125; Daw Principal’s Fund Clemmer, $581; Daw Principal’s Fund Campbell’s Signs, $230; Daw Principal’s Fund Travers, $5; Senior Class Parent Fundraiser Amato, $145.

They also approved field trip requests for the Science Club, Art II, Stem II & Robotics to the Carnegie Museum of History & Art on April 29, second grade to Carnegie Science Center on March 23, third grade to the Carnegie Science Center and Golden Corral on March 8, the seventh grade to the Byham Theater on March 1 and Ebony & Ivory to the WesBanco Arena to sing National Anthem on April 13.

The board approved a motion for membership in the Ohio High School Athletic Association for the 2024-205 school year, membership in the Ohio School Boards Association for calendar year 2024. The cost of membership will be $5828 for the calendar year 2024.

Also approved was a motion for the ThyssenKrupp Elevator service contract for calendar year 2024, Hank’s Sales & Service Inc. Annual Service Agreement for Formax FD 1500 Folder/Sealer from Feb. 1, 2024, through Jan. 31, 2025, and the authorizing of Meta Solutions, acting jointly as a member of the Ohio School Consortium, to issue a request for proposal for the purchase of competitive retail natural gas service from the lowest and best bidder.

The following contracts with ACCESS were approved: agreement for Internet Services for Fiscal Year 2025, Agreement for Managed Internal Broadband Services and Wireless Products for Fiscal Year 2025 and Agreement for Application Services for Fiscal Year 2025.

The board members approved the PaySchool Annual Agreement with the Wellsville Local School District for Fiscal Year 2024 and a memorandum of understanding between the Wellsville BOE and Wellsville Teachers’ Association for a contract change for contract change: making the maximum reimbursement per school year per employee at $1,800.

PaySchool is the service used in the cafeteria by students and parents to add money to the students’ accounts.

Under Fiscal matters the board approved the treasurer’s report, the financial report, transfers and modifications of funds and Then and Now Certificates.

Bereschik noted that the district has a plan in place to do away with Then and Now certificates.

During the personnel portion of the meeting, the board accepted Brandi Meyers’ resignation effective Jan. 22 and approved a contract for the rest of the 2020-2024 school year for Jeanna Ingram as Garfield Crossing Guard and Lunch Prep/Server.

Additionally, the resignation for retirement purposes of Garfield Intervention Specialist Kelly Grimes, to be effective May 31 was accepted.

The following personnel were approved for hire as coaches: Charles Heffner, head baseball coach, and Skyler Lasure, volunteer wrestling coach effective 2/7/24

James Sam Pierson was approved as a classified substitute.

Other approved hires included moving Carly Metsch and Elizabeth Willis from permanent substitutes to first year teachers; Racheal Midcap as intervention specialist at Garfield Elementary for the 2024-2025 school year and move McKenna Simms from a non-bachelor certificate to a Step 0, effective per the Wellsville Local Teacher’s Association negotiated contract.

The Wellsville Board of Education meets the third Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the Wellsville Jr. Sr. High Media Center. The next regular meeting is scheduled for March 18.
