EAST LIVERPOOL -- East Liverpool City School Superintendent Jonathan Ludwig along with other district employees presented to the district's board of education an update on the district's goals and plans Thursday.
The update focused on continuing to work toward improving student attendance throughout the district as the primary goal for this year and address goals and plans for other areas as well, including curriculum, career and technical, STEM, special education, technology, fiscal matters, athletics and more. There was no old business to discuss. Under new business Board Treasurer Anson Weigard said the Stem Program at Westgate Middle School received a grant through the Battel Columbus Foundation for $5,000, which will help supplement them as they start going to competitions, and the district received a $1,000 donation.
The board unanimously accepted the treasurer's report including the cash summary and cash received, the disbursement and receipt report and approve certificate and final appropriations.
Per the treasurer's request the board also approved to accept the donation of a vehicle for the AUTO CTE program for the Catholic Charities, the Tax Budget Certificate accepting the amounts and rates for the upcoming year, the Gasoline and Fuel commitment to the OSC to open their bids on behalf of all members and the JH/HS Robotics Club as requested by the JH/HS Administration.
The treasurer also wants to provide a public notice stating that open questions can be presented during the open meeting for usage for the usage of the districts IDEAB funding for FY24.
At the superintendent's request the board approved the 2024-2025 ELCSD Calendar.
During the personnel portion of the meeting the board approved the following resignations: Rosemary Waddle, who is retiring from her position as secretary effective June 30; Donald Scott Rogers, who is resigning as paraprofessional effective Feb. 23; Cindy Wolfe, cafeteria aide, effective Feb. 19 and Melissa Ollis, crossing guard, effective Feb. 27.
The board approved as non-licensed substitutes: Julie Armentrout, food service; Lisa Mick, bus aide and Cindy Wolfe, bus aid, cafeteria and custodian.
The board approved over 60 supplemental employees in various positions throughout the district for the 2024-2025 school year while tabling another 30 for the district superintendent to review.
Ryan Smith was approved to fill the position as a long-term substitute teacher at North Elementary School for the 2023-2024 school year at a salary of $37,722.46.
Joshua Dissette was approved as volunteer assistant high school boys track coach.
The East Liverpool City Schools Board of Education meets the third Thursday of each month at 6 p.m., in the District Administration Building. The next regular meeting is scheduled for March 21.
