EAST PALESTINE -- During the month of February, Mercy Health - East Palestine Primary Care will be hosting a series of screening events to make it easier for patients and the community to access important annual screenings, labs, mental health care and other services.
Mobile Van Wednesdays at the East Palestine Library will bring the Joanie Abdu Comprehensive Breast Care Center Mobile Mammography Unit to the area to perform breast cancer screenings and the Mercy Health Mobile Dental Van for dental care. In addition, there will be walk-in labs and mental health screenings available at East Palestine Primary Care throughout the month. Additional details can be found below.
"The health and well-being of our patients and the East Palestine community is always our top priority. Our care team is honored to serve this resilient community every day, just as we have done for more than four decades. We look forward to bringing these screenings to the community and continuing to care for our patients, their families and our East Palestine community," said Dr. Jeffrey Cohen, primary care and family medicine physician, Mercy Health - East Palestine Primary Care.
Mercy Health - East Palestine Primary Care Nurse Practitioner Giuseppe DeAbate also detailed the significant role primary care and annual screenings play in a person's long-term health, "Primary care and annual screenings are important to our overall health, as they help ensure patients receive cohesive and well-coordinated care. Prioritizing routine care and screenings can also help prevent health challenges before they arise or catch something early. Primary care physicians and local practices are here to help you through your life-long health journey, and it is our privilege to care for you and your family."

Mercy Health knows access to care close to home can significantly impact health outcomes for patients. That is why Mercy Health has strategically focused on expanding access to health care in rural communities. Last year, East Palestine Primary Care became Mercy Health's ninth walk-in care location in the Mahoning Valley. Walk-in care was established in this practice to make it easier for patients and the community to see a primary care provider without to schedule an appointment ahead of time. The walk-in care clinic is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
