Beekeepers Association meeting
The Columbiana & Mahoning County Beekeepers Association will meet at 2 p.m. Feb. 18 at the Austintown Senior Center, 112 Westchester Dr. A social potluck lunch will be held at 1 p.m. prior to the program presented by Brian Kopler of Castle Bees, who will speak on Innovation: is it helping or hindering beekeeping. Anyone interested in beekeeping is welcome to attend.
'Here on the Flight Path'
The Youngstown Playhouse has announced auditions for Norm Foster's "Here on the Flight Path." Open auditions will be held on Sunday, March 10, and Monday, March 11, from 6 to 8 p.m. at The Youngstown Playhouse. "Here on the Flight Path" is a cute comedy about a man named John who wants to live a nice quiet life in his fourth-floor apartment. His nice quiet life is soon interrupted by the women who move into the adjoining apartment. John meets Fay, then Angel, then Gwen on the balcony and has a series of conversations with each different personality. By the end of the show, John learns valuable lessons that allow him to grow in ways he never imagined. There are four roles available - one male role aged 30 and above and three female roles aged 25 and above. All ethnicities are encouraged to participate. Be prepared to read from the script. There will be no call backs regarding auditions. The creative team is led under the direction of Ben Gavitt. Rehearsals will tentatively begin late March. Technical rehearsals will occur the week of May 5. Performances will take place Friday, May 10 and Saturday, May 11 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, May 12, at 2:30 p.m. and again the following week on Friday, May 17 and Saturday, May 18 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, May 19 at 2:30 p.m.
Soup sale Feb. 15
The St. George Altar & Rosary Society will be selling homemade vegetable beef soup on Thursday, Feb. 15 from 4 to 6 p.m. Pickup only at St. George Hall, 271 E. Chestnut St., Lisbon. Cost is $10 per quart. To place an order by Sunday, Feb. 11, call 330-853-5314.
Banquet in Salem Monday
Archie and Nancy Crum and Family will sponsor the dine in or drive thru Banquet in Salem from 5 p.m. until the food is gone Monday at the Salem Memorial Building. The menu will include ham. scalloped potatoes, green beans, applesauce, fresh vegetables and fruit, and pudding. Dine in will park in the designated area and proceed to front door. Drive thru will line up in the lot behind the building; one meal per person in the vehicle. No parking in the library lot. St. Paul's Pancake Supper
St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 29 Spruce St., Leetonia, will host its Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper from 5 to 7 p.m. Feb. 13. The meal includes cornmeal, buttermilk and blueberry pancakes (chocolate chips available for garnish), DiRusso sausage, applesauce, coffee, hot tea, milk and water. Cost is $8 for adults, $5 for children ages 5 to 11 and free for children ages 4 and under.
Grandview Livestock joins membership of American Angus Assoc.
Grandview Livestock of East Palestine is a new member of the American Angus Association, reports Mark McCully, CEO of the national breed organization headquartered in Saint Joseph, Missouri.
The American Angus Association, with more than 22,000 active adult and junior members, is the largest beef breed association in the world. Its computerized records include detailed information on over 20 million registered Angus.
The Association records ancestral information and keeps production records and genomic data on individual animals to develop industry-leading selection tools for its members. The programs and services of the Association and its entities -- Angus Genetics Inc., Angus Media, Certified Angus Beef LLC and the Angus Foundation -- help members advance the beef cattle business by selecting the best animals for their herds and marketing quality genetics for the beef cattle industry and quality beef for consumers.
