LISBON-- Firefighters in Lisbon have been busy battling two house fires in two days.
Early Wednesday at 5:38 a.m., crews were dispatched to a structure fire at 39065 Churchill Road that was started by a candle falling on a couch, according to Lisbon Fire Chief Mark Hall.
Everyone was able to exit the home safely, but the house is a total loss, Hall said. The scene was clear by 11:30 a.m.
The single-digit temperatures and icy conditions did not freeze any lines but did make the knockdown more difficult, Hall said.
"We were fighting ice on the road and the scene," he said. "The temperature was a factor."
The ice and wind also hindered efforts to contain a fire at a mobile home at 10126 Steubenville Pike Road Tuesday morning.
"They were up on top of the hill, one of the highest points in the county," Hall said of the windy conditions.
The mobile home was fully engulfed in flames when crews arrived after receiving the call at 8:31 a.m. Tuesday. The mobile home is a total loss, according to Hall. There were no injuries and the scene was clear at 10:37 a.m. A wood burner is suspected as the cause in the mobile home fire.
Mutual aid was key in tamping down both blazes, Hall said.
"It's nice to have the neighboring departments help out," he said.
West Point and Hanoverton responded with mutual aid to both fires and the Lisbon Street Department and police department helped with traffic control and the shuttling of trucks and tankers at the Churchill Road fire, Hall said.
