COLUMBIANA -- A new athletic director has been selected for the Crestview Local School District.
The board of education approved the hiring of Casey Bogerd during this month's regular meeting.
Bogerd was recommended by District Superintendent Dan Hill.
According to the district, Bogerd is the current athletic director at Chaney High School, a position he has held since 2018.
He holds a bachelor's degree in physical education from Youngstown State University and a master's of science in education from Walden University. Bogerd has also held several coaching positions over the course of his career, the district said.
Bogerd's position as Crestview athletic director begins Feb. 1, with the board granting him a contract through the end of the 2023-24 school year.
The board also granted him an additional two-year contract effective Aug. 1 of this year through July 31, 2026.
Hill said that Laura Nappi, who currently serves as athletic director for Crestview, will remain with the district and serve as a K-12 assistant principal.
"She will be focused on academic alignment, scope and sequencing and coaching of academic content in the areas as we adopt text series for each content area," Hill said.
Nappi was originally hired as athletic director last May following the resignation of athletic director Paul Cusick.
Hill then took time during the meeting to thank the board as part of national School Boards Recognition Month.
The board was presented with a proclamation and Hill also offered his personal and professional thanks to the board.
"From the beginning of the levy campaign, construction visioning, educational planning and every other aspect that is unique to our current state of education, you have been a positive source of support for students, staff and the community. I thank you each one for being committed to our vision," he said.
On another matter, high school Principal Greg Woolman told the board of education that senior Karagin Miller will attend the National Science Teaching Association's national conference in Denver, Colorado alongside her mother, Kristen Miller, and chemistry teacher Veronica Kotel.
Woolman said their presentation is entitled "Discovering the Value of a Self-Driven Chemistry Course Through the Eyes of A Disaster," and it will focus on Karagin's third-year, independent study chemistry course, which evolved when her interest in chemistry grew after the East Palestine train derailment last February.
The board also approved Loria Parker as middle and high school cafeteria cashier on a one year limited contract for the remainder of the 2023-24 school year. Supplemental contracts were approved for Cara Mason, high school varsity girls head track coach, and Steven Weber, middle school competitive academic robotics and academic challenge team coach.
Summer school dates were also set for the 2024 summer. Success by Six for incoming kindergartners will be held July 15 through Aug. 8 and summer school for grades 1-12 will take place from June 3 through June 27.
