VEX Robotics leagues begin with first round qualifier

LISBON - This year's VEX Robotics leagues have officially begun with the first round qualifier. In the high school division, 26 teams out of 28 competed at the Columbiana County Career and Technical Center Dec. 7. Schools participating included East Palestine, Columbiana, Beaver Local, Leetonia, Springfield, Crestview, East Liverpool and Wellsville. The next qualifying session for the high school division will be held Jan. 4.
A total of 49 teams are registered to compete in the middle school's VEX IQ division this year. Due to school closures, only 31 of those teams were able to compete in the first round qualifier Dec. 14 at the career center. Schools included in this qualifier round included Columbiana, Crestview, East Liverpool, East Palestine and Beaver Local. Southern Local, Lisbon and Leetonia will join in the next qualifying round Jan. 11.
Both divisions are being livestreamed this year.
