LISBON -- Rev. Donna Shuman of Lisbon Assembly of God Church is looking for some help from the community to provide gift cards to teens in foster care in Columbiana County and beyond this Christmas.
Shuman made Lisbon village council members and officials aware of the appeal known as Foster Teen Christmas Outreach, sponsored by Father's Heart, Ohio Ministry Network, during their meeting Tuesday.
She explained that teens in foster care can sometimes get overlooked so the Foster Teen Christmas Outreach was formed to help them.
She presented a letter regarding the mission to area churches, businesses and organizations in hopes of getting enough gift cards to provide two $25 gift cards each to the 24 teens in Columbiana County and to donate the rest for foster teens throughout the state. She noted the most popular cards are Walmart, Amazon and Target.
Cash donations will be accepted also for her to purchase gift cards to donate.
As she spoke, at least two people in the audience got up and handed her money for the cause.
"We sincerely hope you will join us in bringing joy and hope to Ohio's foster teens this holiday season. Together, we can make a profound different," she wrote in the letter.
To donate, contact Shuman at dshuman1002@gmail.com or 330-429-1545. The deadline is Dec. 6.
