CANFIELD - At the December meeting with the Public Employee Retirees (P.E.R.I.) of Mahoning County, the guest speaker was John Muckridge, president and CEO from the Mahoning Valley Rescue Mission.
Muckridge spoke to the members about the program and goals set forth with the Rescue Mission. He said, "If we just give hand-outs that just gives dependence on the hand. We build into people that if you are capable to go out and work, save money and be good stewards of that, when they move out they stay out."
The mission serves people in need who come from all walks of life and economic backgrounds. In addition to housing and food, their licensed social worker and social worker interns offer counseling and education to hundreds of people each year. Their residential programs enable people to get back on their feet and become productive individuals again, which benefits their families and the community.
This year, the Rescue Mission celebrated 130 years, since 1893. Donations are vital to sustain the mission, located at 962 Martin Luther King Junior Blvd., Youngstown, OH 44510. For information contact them at 330-625-4094.
