COLUMBIANA -- Work is ongoing on eight acres of property targeted for athletics for the Columbiana School District.
District Superintendent Don Mook provided the board of education with an update on the work at 43262 Columbiana Waterford Road during this month's meeting.
The board of education approved purchasing the property with a home and two barns earlier this year for $231,001. The property borders the Columbiana Middle School and the district's athletic complex.
Mook said that HVAC work has been completed and up to code water lines have been installed in the bathrooms and kitchen.
Plastic wall tile has also been removed in the upstairs bathroom and the kitchen has been prepped for drywall installation.
Work is also being done on the exterior of the building, he said.
The district acquired the property for the purpose of expanding options for the middle school and athletic complex.
In other business during the meeting the board approved:
-- The 2024 Section 125 Flexible Benefit Plan.
-- Setting the next regular meeting, organizational meeting and tax budget hearing for 6 p.m. Jan. 9.
-- Setting the compensation of board members for 2024 for a maximum of 12 meetings at the maximum rate per meeting as authorized by Ohio Revised Code, which is currently $125 per meeting.
-- Paula Uram and Tyler Witherstine as substitute support staff.
-- Authorizing the administration of naloxone by trained school personnel in accordance with state laws and regulations, for the purpose of responding to suspected opioid overdose on school property or school leased facilities and authorizing the Superintendent to develop and implement appropriate policies, procedures, and training programs related to the administration of naloxone in collaboration with the local health authorities, emergency services, and/or legal counsel for the foreseeable future.
-- The resignation of teacher Audra Hatch, effective Dec. 31, 2023 for personal reasons.
