Winter Bees program
The Wellsville Carnegie Public Library will host a Winter Bees program at 6 p.m. Nov. 16. The program will feature local beekeeper Maria Matthews explaining what happens to bees in winter, how bee survive without flowers and whether bee migrate to warmer climates. Register at 330-532-1526.
Cancer support group
Community members facing the challenges of a cancer journey can gain encouragement and understanding of this disease during a free support group hosted by University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center at Salem Regional Medical Center (SRMC). The group's next monthly meeting will be held from 3 to 4 p.m., Wednesday in SRMC's Oncology Conference Room, located on the hospital's second floor, past the Cancer & Infusion Center on the left-hand side. SRMC's Cancer Support Group is open to anyone in the community in cancer treatment and cancer survivors. Sessions offer education and emotional support for people with any type of cancer. Attendees are asked to check in at the Oncology Department front desk before entering the meeting. There is no cost to participate, but pre-registration for the meetings is required. Ostomy support group
Salem Regional Medical Center's Ostomy Support Group will meet Monday for area residents with ostomies and their caregivers. The group will meet from 4 to 5 p.m. in SRMC's Private Dining Room, located at the back of the cafeteria on the hospital's ground floor. SRMC's free Ostomy Support Group offers education, encouragement and emotional support for people with any type of ostomy (and their caregivers), including those with permanent or temporary urostomies; ileostomies and colostomies. Meetings also address some of the common concerns faced by people with ostomies, such as skin care; pouching; activity and nutrition. Sessions are led by SRMC's certified wound, ostomy and continence nurse, and there is no cost to participate. Pre-registration for the Ostomy Support Group meeting is requested. Salem LCBA meeting
Salem LCBA Branch 654 at St. Paul Catholic Church will hold its regular monthly meeting Thursday at 6:30 p.m., with a change in date and location. The meeting, originally scheduled the first Thursday of the month, was rescheduled Nov. 9 due to the observance of All Souls Day at St. Paul Catholic Church Nov. 2. The meeting will be held at the Salem Community Pantry at 794 E. Third St. Guest speaker will be Jackie Berthold, who will discuss the operation of the Food Pantry, followed by a tour. President Rose Bedell will preside and refreshments will be served by Ana Hutson and Eloise Traina. Also planned this month by Salem LCBA is its annual Memorial Mass for deceased members Nov. 12 at 8 a.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church. Breakfast to follow.
Soil and water board meeting
The Columbiana Soil & Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors has changed its next regular meeting to 9:30 a.m. Nov. 7 at the Columbiana Soil & Water Conservation District's office at 1834-B S. Lincoln Ave., Salem. For information contact the office at 330-277-2974.
Ups of Downs quarter auction
The Ups of Downs, a down syndrome support group for local families, will host its annual quarter auction Nov. 12 at the East Liverpool Moose Lodge. Doors open at 11 a.m. for vendors and noon for the public. Admission is $5 per person and includes one bidding paddle. Additional bidding paddles will be available for $1 each. The concession stand will also be open.
Robert Bycroft adopt-a-class
Robert Bycroft School is again sponsoring the Adopt-A-Class project for Christmas. This project involves donating $75 to adopt an entire class; however, any amount of donation is greatly appreciated. The money collected will be used by staff members to purchase a gift for each child. The gifts will be given to the students prior to Christmas Break. The Early Intervention/Help Me Grow program is also accepting monetary donations to be used toward Christmas gifts for their 100 enrolled children.
