MITCHELL, S.D. - Colbie Koons of Salem recently competed at the National Pedal Pull Championships in South Dakota.
The pedal pull was held Sept. 23 at The Corn Palace in Mitchell, South Dakota. Koons qualified for the national event by winning the Ohio State Championship Pedal Pull held in Croton, Ohio, in August.
Ohio is one of 15 sanctioned states in the National Pedal Puller's Association, qualifying pullers along with Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota and Wisconsin.
A total of 42 pullers from across the country qualified for the 6-year-old girls division at nationals, and Colbie finished seventh overall. This was her second straight year competing at the national event; in 2022 she finished 10th.
Colbie enjoys pedal pulling and has already qualified for the Buckeye State Pedal Pullers state championship pull in 2024 after finishing in second place at the Geauga County Fair.
In 2023, she competed in seven pulls. She placed first and second at the National Tractor Pulling Championships two-day event, hosted by the National Kiddie Tractor Puller's Association, as well as the second place finish in Geauga County, first place finish at the Columbiana County Fair, first place finish at the Winona Nationals sponsored by Just Rite 4H, first place finish at the Ohio State Championship Pull, and rounded out the season with a seventh place finish at the national event.
Colbie is looking forward to continuing her pedal pulling career with her next planned pull at the Grand Nationals in Greenville, Ohio, in April, 2024.
