Hayride & Petting Zoo
The Columbiana Area Tourism Bureau will present the Joy of Christmas 2023 Hayride & Petting Zoo from 6 to 9 p.m. Nov. 18 at the Harvey S. Firestone Recreational Park (entrance by Regal Jewelers). Parking and payment for the hayride is in the pool parking lot. Hayrides feature three jump-on/jump-off stops with wagons rotating along the route throughout the evening. First stop is the petting zoo and gingerbread house; second stop is Santa's ice castle for hot coco, popcorn and cookies ($1 per item), craft and reindeer food making, face painting and photos with Santa; and third stop is the return to the pool parking lot. The hayride will include the Joy of Christmas light show featuring more than one million bulbs. Wristbands cast $5 per person, free for children 3 years and under.
Operation Christmas Child
Covenant Presbyterian Church, 401 18th St., Wellsville, will once again be a drop off location for Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes. Operation Christmas Child, a project of Samaritan's Purse, along with local partners, pack shoeboxes filled with small toys, hygiene items, and school supplies and deliver them to under-privileged children around the world. Operation Christmas is celebrating 30 years and has delivered over 200 million shoebox gifts. In addition to bringing great joy to millions of boys and girls in need, gifts are accompanied by the Good News of Jesus Christ. Drop-off days will be: Wednesday, Oct. 26, noon to 3 p.m.; Tuesday, Oct. 31, from 4 to 7 p.m.; Tuesday, Nov. 7, from 2 to 4 p.m.; and any Sunday through Nov. 12 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
That Quilt Group I Belong To
That Quilt Group I Belong To (TQGIBT) will meet at 7 p.m. Oct. 27 in the Rotary Building at Fair Park on Oak Street in Canfield. This guild of friendly quilters meets on the third Tuesday of each month at Fair Park in Canfield. They welcome quilters of varied skill levels, from beginner to experienced. Members are quick to offer help, if asked, and share their quilting projects and experiences. Group members also make regular donations of quilts, pillow cases, etc. to Hospice of the Valley, Akron Children's Hospital, Beatitude House, Sleep In Heavenly Peace and more. The kits for Christmas stockings are now available to members to complete by the November meeting so that they can be delivered to Salvation Army. The "Quilter's Playtime" demonstration will be the Musical Chairs block. This block is great to use up fat quarters, layer cakes or yardage and results in nine finished blocks. MCCTC campus tour events
Mahoning County Career and Technical Center, Adult Career Center, located on Palmyra Road in Canfield, is offering to the public their 2023-2024 Campus Tour events. The first of six dates will be held at 10 a.m. this morning. More events will be held throughout the year including Oct. 17 at 6 p.m., Jan. 17 at 6 p.m., March 12 at 10 a.m., April 17 at 6 p.m. or May 7 at 6 p.m. Featured technical training programs are Welding, Automotive Technology, Medical Assistant, Medical Office Specialist, Firefighter I & II and EMT. MCCTC's financial aid coordinator and Mahoning and Columbiana Training Association will all be on-site to help students and parents learn more about FAFSA and other ways to pay for school. During Campus Tour events, attendees can observe a live class as well. Labs will be open for touring and MCCTC Adult Career Center's student recruiter will be on hand to discuss how to apply. Those who are ready to graduate high school or who have already have a high school diploma are welcome to attend. Individuals wishing to register for this event or other Campus Tour dates can call the MCCTC Adult Career Center office at 330-729-4100. Registration is not required, but appreciated.
Go Wild in the Park
The Salem Public Library and Salem Parks Department are sponsoring Rock Painting: Go Wild in the Park from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Waterworth Memorial Park, next to the Dog Park and Nature Trail. The project will be a community rock snake; all supplies are provided free of cost by Salem Parks Department and Salem Public Library. This program is free of cost and open to all ages. Registration is requested online at the library's website or by calling the library at 330-332-0042 for registration assistance. Use the Sunset Boulevard entrance to the park.
A Little Live Music
The second installment of this year's slate of musicians in Salem Public Library's A Little Live Music at the Library is the dynamic duo of Dave Byers and Jon Volio. These Salem favorites will perform from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday in the Reading Room. This hour-long performance is free of cost and open to all.
Wreaths Across America
On Dec. 16 at cemeteries across the United States and in several foreign countries, volunteers will gather to lay fresh balsam wreaths on the graves of veterans. The goal of the Wreaths Across America program is to remember the fallen, honor those who serve, and teach the next generation the value of freedom. What began years ago in Arlington National Cemetery has now spread to thousands of cemeteries worldwide. New Cumberland Cemetery has been a member of this program for several years and will continue the tradition this year. Those who would like to purchase a wreath to be placed on a veteran's grave can pick up an order form at the city building or call George Hines at 304-670-7092. The cost for each wreath is $17. The committee hopes to surpass last year's total in order to decorate as many of the over 500 veterans' graves in the cemetery as possible. Wiskerfest 2023 slated Saturday
Hancock County Humane Foundation will host Wiskerfest 2023 from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Victorian Hall, Weirton. This is the foundation's biggest fall fundraiser, with food, drink, DJ and over 40 raffle prizes.All proceeds go directly to help the homeless animals in the foundation's care.
