COLUMBIANA -- A longtime teacher at Crestview High School will continue teaching entrepreneurship classes following his retirement.
Over the summer the board of education approved the rehiring of Bob Cooper.
District Superintendent Daniel Hill said that Cooper has 35 years of experience in education and has spent the last 27 years at Crestview, most recently as a work study instructor and entrepreneur class teacher.
Hill said that Cooper's licensure is "very difficult to come by" and that the district felt it would be good to keep Cooper on staff as a retire/rehire.
"We wanted him to continue with the momentum he built in those classes...he is doing a very great job for us there so we obviously wanted him back," Hill said.
The district also hired a new athletic trainer over the summer. Dylan Gorby will serve as athletic trainer for all winter and spring sports on a supplemental contact that will pay $6,000 per season.
Hill also said during the August board of education meeting that the band boosters did a great job with their food stand at the Columbiana County Fair.
Hill said the stand was a "huge success" and that the district received many compliments that students worked hard to serve patrons.
In other business during the August meeting, the board approved:
-- A resolution to reject bids for athletic field project. The project will be suspended at this time and may be reconsidered at a later point in time.
-- The Board grant Laura Nappi, Athletic Director, permission to employ personnel as needed under a personal service contract to work co-curricular events during the 2023-24 school year.
-- Bus routes and stops for the 2023-24 school year and to authorize the Superintendent and Transportation Supervisor to adjust routes and stops during the 2023-24 school year as necessary.
-- The transportation department hand book.
-- Teacher handbooks for the high school, middle school and elementary school.
-- The resignation of Adam Jones, high school varsity boys head soccer coach, effective immediately.
-- The resignation of Tony Dolan, high school varsity assistant boys soccer coach, effective Aug. 9, 2023.
-- The resignation of Valerie Victoria, high school instruction tutor, effective at the end of the 2022-23 school year.
-- Supplemental contracts for Eric Bable, and Donna Burnell.
-- Pupil activity contracts for non-teaching personnel Tony Dolan, high school varsity boys head soccer coach, and Jon Gallagher, high school varsity assistant girls basketball coach (freshmen).
-- Pupil activity contracts for Dillon Gorby, fall and winter athletic trainer; Tood Kibby, varsity boys head baseball coach; Scott Knox, varsity boys assistant baseball coach; and Brian Welch, varsity boys assistant soccer coach.
-- Melissa Fieldhouse as ticket taker/seller; Donald Guy as high school volleyball clock operator; Richard Stelts as high school soccer clock operator and high school football clock operator.
-- Android Baltputnis, as non-paid volunteer high school football and volleyball announcer; John Beilhart as non-paid high school volunteer football chain crew; Robert Beveridge as non-paid high school volunteer videographer for soccer; and David Ray and Dan Ray as non-paid high school volunteer football chain crew.
-- Jake Ferris and Mitchell Hart as non-paid high school volunteer assistant coaches.
-- Athletic department helpers at a rate of $10 per hour.
-- The substitute employee salary schedule for ticket takers and ticket sellers at $13.50 per hour.
-- A resolution to contract with the Columbiana County Board of Developmental Disabilities to provide educational services for school-age multi-handicapped students.
-- Contract with the Columbiana County ESC for the Project Inspire for the 2023-24 school year.
-- The hiring of sheriff deputies for security at $30 per hour.
-- The high school band and high school art club trip to Disney for parade performance and Disney Art Workshop on Nov. 17-21, 2023.
-- The middle school trip to Washington D.C. on May 20-22, 2024.
The next board meeting is 6 p.m Sept. 13.
