Rail crossing closed
Norfolk Southern Railroad will close the South Ellsworth crossing in Salem between Snyder Road and Mullins Avenue through Friday for maintenance.
Ice cream festival
East Fairfield United Methodist Church, 45675 State Route 558 (near state Route 7), New Waterford, will host an ice cream festival from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Aug. 12 featuring homemade ice cream made with farm fresh milk from Baker's Golden Dairy, hot turkey sandwiches, hot dogs, cheesy potatoes, baked beans, pasta salad, pie, cake and beverages.
Blossom Pet Parade
Blossom Nursing & Rehab Center will host a Pet Parade from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Registration begins at 1:30 p.m. Prizes will be given for the following categories: best costume, most talented and resident's favorite. Refreshments provided.
Sebring garage sales
The Friends of the Sebring Parks is this year's sponsor for the annual community wide garage sales. The sales will take place Thursday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. Some sales will also take place in the neighboring village of Beloit. The list of garage sales can be downloaded at http//sebringfriendsofthepark.org/garage-sale (scroll to the bottom of the page). A limited number of printed lists will be available at Brown Funeral Home, 126 W. Vermont Ave., Brick House Bar & Grill, 206 E. Ohio Ave., Sebring Library, 195 W. Ohio Ave. and Cast Cray Fishing, 356 E. Maryland Ave. "Sebring is a great little town. This event is a way for folks from surrounding areas to experience us," said Susan Sanor with the Friends of the Parks. "Come and shop garage sale bargains, enjoy lunch at one of our local restaurants, and check out our downtown stores as well."
Trinity Lutheran Church
Trinity Lutheran Church, 930 N. 12th St., will be participating in the Sebring Community Wide Yard Sales from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. There will be antique dolls, antique children's rocking chairs, household items, extra large stuffies, books, furniture, children's and men's clothing, and ladies clothing sizes small to 5X. Restrooms are available. Everything is free on Saturday. Proceeds will go toward local projects.
Substitute teachers needed
The Educational Service Center of Eastern Ohio (ESCEO) is hosting recruitment events in search of substitute teachers for the 2023-24 school year. These events will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Aug. 4, Aug. 16 and Sept. 15 at 7320 N. Palmyra Road, Canfield. Anyone with an associate's degree or higher can substitute teach. The Mahoning Valley Regional Council of Governments (MVRCOG) assists candidates with the process to become a substitute teacher. Areas in need of substitute teachers include Austintown, Boardman, Campbell, Canfield, ESCEO, Lowellville, Mahoning County Career and Technical Center, Mahoning County Board of Developmental Disabilities, Poland and Struthers. The Fairfield Township trustees have rescheduled their Aug. 3 meeting to 7 p.m. Aug. 10 at the government building.
SALT to host spaghetti dinner
Souls After Living Truth (SALT) Youth Group at Damascus United Methodist Church will host a spaghetti dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. Aug. 13 at the church (enter through the south doors). The meal will include spaghetti and meatballs, salad, bread and dessert for a donation. All proceeds will go toward Clothed in Rightousness clothing and food ministry in Alliance.OUou
