WELLSVILLE -- The Wellsville Board of Education held a special meeting Tuesday for the purpose of approving personnel changes.
The board members adjourned to an executive session to discuss the personnel matters prior to voting on them in an open meeting.
Upon return from the executive session, board members approved a motion to accept the resignation of Daw Elementary Principal Rick Prescott effective Aug. 11, and approved Melania Carfolo to fill the position with a two-year contract.
Mark Jones was approved with a one-year contract as the athletic director for the district for the 2023-2024 school year. Jones began as director on June 27.
Board members also approved the following coaches: Gregory Beatty and Jordan Sloan as varsity football assistants, Thomas Redman as a volunteer jr. high football, Payton Munoz and Jayla Corbin as jr. high volleyball and John Stoakes as high school golf.
Elziabeth Willis was approved with a one-year contract for a first-grade teaching position and Carly Metsch as a kindergarten teacher, both at Garfield Elementary and both are conditional, pending receipt of necessary documentation.
McKenna Simms was approved for a one-year contract as a visual arts teacher, also pending receipt of necessary documentation.
School Superintendent Richard Bereschik said while doing the interviews he was very impressed with the candidates and their maturity and that the kids (recent college graduates) they were hiring that night were good.
Wellsville Board of Education usually meets the third Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the media center at Wellsville Jr. Sr. High School. The July meeting was postponed and will be held on July 31.
