EL school board OKs new director of curriculum and school improvement

EAST LIVERPOOL –Ryan Willis was approved for promotion to the position of director of curriculum and school improvement during Thursday meeting of the East Liverpool City School District Board of Education meeting.

The board approved a number of other personnel changes during the meeting as well.

Resignations were accepted for Jeffrey Cornfield, drama advisor; Greg Voorhess, ELHS science teacher; Patrick DiNapoli, ELHS science teacher; Alyssa Tohm LaCroft intervention specialist; Courtney Dalrymple, early childhood education career tech teacher ;and Gwen Croxall, cafeteria aide.

Other hires approved: Breonna Kopac, board-certified behavior analyst; Courtney Cain, Intervention Specialist, Westgate; Greg Vorhees, maintenance worker’ and, Shelby Wagner, sixth-grade advisor.

Board member Tamar Cooper, who heads up the personnel committee, said it’s been a very busy summer interviewing new staff and that the district has multiple positions affected including 22 new hires, 13 internal moves, which include promotions or moves requested by the staff; and the district currently has five open positions.

Motions passed during the treasures report include:

— approval of the Cash Summary and Cash Rec., Report for May 2023 and Disbursement & Receipt Report for May 2023,

–the renewal of tutoring services provided by Michelle Salsberry as the administrator of the Potter Tutoring Network,

–approval of the renewal of the Keys to Literacy professional development contract,

–the contract with Psycare to expand services provided to students,

— the contract with Columbiana County ESC for Project Inspire,

–the purchase of four school buses from Truck Sales and Service with purchase agreements attached,

–the renewal of Accellus for the online curriculum ,

–the purchase of buses new buses with cameras,

–the contract with West Point Paving to complete work at Patterson Field,

–the quote from Quality Truck for a new dump truck bed,

— the quote from Kyle Landscape Development to complete landscaping work at Patterson Field,

–the quote from Provision Painting for work on the away bleachers at Patterson Field.

Board member Mario Hernandez noted that the Buildings and Grounds Committee will be meeting soon to discuss possibly building a new bus garage. The committee has been considering a deal with Scout Solar to use solar energy for the school district. Scout Solar would build a bus garage as a capital improvement project. This is still under discussion with no decision made yet.

The East Liverpool City School District will hold a back-to-school bash on Aug. 27 from 5-7 p.m., at Patterson Field.

The East Liverpool Board of Education meets the fourth Thursday of each month at 6 p.m., at the district’s administration building. The next meeting will be on Aug. 24.
