COLUMBIANA -- A program used to help students with career exploration at the Crestview Local School District will be presented to the state.
Crestview Superintendent Dan Hill said during the July 12 board of education meeting that a pilot presentation was held with members of the Ohio Department of Education earlier that day and that members of the Crestview team and Columbiana County Educational Service Center will present again in Columbus on July 25.
The presentation will be made before career educators on the advising and educational platform that Crestview uses in assisting students and families regarding career exploration, he said.
"The addition of Mr. Rick Fawcett, along with the counseling team already in place, has assisted the district in identifying student options at a much younger age," Hill said.
He went on to say that added features of the business partnerships are creating "real life hands on applications" in the curriculum offerings.
In other matters, Hill said that the district is having success with filling open positions.
"We continue to fill any vacancies that have occurred with quality instructors and staff related to the openings. I am very encouraged by applicants within and outside our geographic region who express interest in our positions," he said.
In other business, the board approved:
-- The resignation of Hilary McLoud, elementary school teacher, effective at the end of the 2022-23 school year.
-- The resignation of Kelsie Hutton, elementary school teacher, effective at the end of the 2022-23 school year.
-- The resignation of Dylan Huff, middle school assistant boys football coach, effective immediately.
-- A one-year limited contract for Mary Zeno, elementary school intervention specialist.
-- Student accident insurance through the Guarantee Trust Life Insurance Company
-- Lunch prices for the 23-24 school year, lunch prices will remain the same as the 22-23 school year with elementary lunches costing $3 and middle and high school lunches being $3.10. Breakfast will also remain $1.35 for all buildings.
-- New hires included Kathryn Vrabel for French Club, Jill Colaneri for middle school cross country, Joe Flasco as a varsity boys basketball assistant coach and Travis Blakemen as a substitute bus driver.
-- The substitute teacher wage was raised to $110 per day.
-- Participation in the Ohio Coalition for Equity and Adequacy of School Funding in the amount of $2,356.00.
Tyler Mellott was also sworn in as the appointed student liaison for the 23-24 school year. Tyler is the son of Melissa and Edward Mellott. Tyler is a player on the Crestview Rebel soccer team as well as a member of Student Council and Leo Club.
A special board meeting was set for 6 p.m. July 24 in the middle school cafeteria. The next regular meeting is set for 6 p.m. Aug. 6 in the middle school cafeteria.
