EAST LIVERPOOL - The Museum of Ceramics has selected two people for camp counselors at Clay Academy this summer at the museum. Reese Mason and Emma Kurtz were selected for counselor internship funded by Hancock County Savings Bank. Reese and Emma are both anxious to return to Clay Academy, this time as a counselor, not a participant. Reese attended Wellsville High School and graduated this spring; she plans to attend college this fall. She enjoys volleyball, pottery forms of art and stays busy waitressing. Emma, a sophomore that attends Beaver Local High School, enjoys various forms of art; music, clay building and jewelry making. These two are enthusiastic and dedicated to the fulfillment of the mission of the Museum of Ceramics to educate and enjoy the reasons behind East Liverpool being the Pottery Center of the United States.
Clay Academy is dedicated to multi-aged campers and select activities for their skill level. Harker (8-9 years old), June 19-23; Hall (10-11 years old), July 17-21; Homer (12-14), July 31- Aug. 4. Clay Academy is a daylong camp from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Lunch and snacks are being provided by local businesses. Campers will enjoy hand building with clay and throwing on a pottery wheel, create beautiful mosaics from pottery shards, tour Fiesta Tableware Company, Thompson House and enjoy a Ghost Walk of historic potters of the East Liverpool area. That is just a sampling of the fun activities planned for Clay Academy.
