Board of Elections meets today
The Columbiana County Board of Elections will meet in special session at 1:30 p.m. today to handle several agenda items, including polling location changes in East Palestine, Lisbon and the city of Salem. Other agenda items include precinct election official reduction in multi-precinct polling locations, result of internal audit for May 2 special election, special election programming, logic and accuracy testing, voter registration deadline and dates for absentee voting.
Chamber Gallery of Art
The Chamber Gallery of Art, located in the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce, will be holding an Artist's Reception for Ted Lawson from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Friday. Lawson is a contemporary watercolor artist who creates art using "the things that people see and use every day" as his inspiration. His ideas involving common everyday scenes or objects spring from his extensive foreign and domestic travels as well as glimpses of New York City. He continuously strives to accomplish the goal of creating something that is entertaining and thought provoking for other people to look at and enjoy. The free event is open to the public and is located at 210 E. State St., Salem, inside the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce.
Historical museum open
The Western Columbiana Society's historical museum on Homeworth Road in Homeworth will be open every Saturday morning from 9 a.m. to noon during June and July. There is no admission charge, but donations are accepted.
Salem Library music
Salem Public Library is joining in on the Super Cruise celebration Saturday when Jan Cox of Salem Music Centre will perform Swing music from 5 to 7 p.m. on the new library patio! All are welcome for this free music event,
Parkinson's Support Group
Parkinson's Support Group will be meet at 1 p.m. June 13 at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 251 S. Broadway Ave., Salem. A representative from Acorda Theraputics will be the speaker.
The Tribute Band to perform
The Salem Super Cruise will feature a special event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday when The Tribute Band consisting of longtime Salem entertainer Randy Strader and his sons Jeff and Brandon will perform its well-known History of American Rock & Roll show at the Salem CDJR on North Ellsworth Avenue. The band is celebrating its 19th year. The original S.R.O. band from the 1970s will also perform a set. One of Strader's earlier bands, S.R.O. performed its first job in November of 1974. Original members are Chuck Reaggle and Gary Russell of Columbiana with Strader. S.R.O. opened for the Steve Miller Band at the Richfield Coliseum in April of 1977 and was popular in the local night club circuit during the 1970s. The Salem CDJR dealership will also be holding a car show from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with prizes given.
