SFC Lori Singer Bare delivers the keynote speech while master of ceremonies Derek Coffee looks on at the United Local Community Memorial Day service held in the high school gymnasium on Saturday. Singer-Bare was with 178th Military Police Detachment, 89th MP brigade, when she ended the shooting spree on Ft. Hood on April 2, 2014. The shooting was the second at Fort Hood in five years and claimed four lives, including the shooter, while leaving 16 wounded. The Salem graduate was awarded the highly regarded Soldier's Medal on May 27, 2015 for her actions. During her speech on Saturday, Singer-Bare thanked all those who gave their lives during military service, including United Local graduate William Sheen who was killed in action in Vietnam in 1969.
