By KATIE WHITE 2 min read

COLUMBIANA -- City council has approved appointing a local businessman to fill the vacant seat on the planning commission.

During the recent council meeting Jeff Stoy was unanimously approved for the position.

In his letter of interest to the city Stoy said he felt that his experience and qualifications in the construction industry would allow him to contribute to the planning commission's efforts to keep Columbiana moving forward for the betterment of the community.

Stoy is owner of American Steel LLC and has spent the majority of his life as a Columbiana resident.

In his letter to the city Stoy also said that he has had the opportunity over the years to build several commercial construction projects and perform countless hours of community service.

His appointment will fulfill the unexpired term of former planning commission member Tucker Cope Jr., who announced his resignation in March.

According to the minutes of the March 14 planning commission meeting, Cope said that he presented an issue with a telephone pole on Main Street to city council and had not been offered a solution to the issue and as a result he was resigning his seat on the commission.

With the new appointment, Stoy will now serve on the commission until the term expires on Dec. 31, 2025.
