Perry Township voters OK police levy

By MORGAN AHART 1 min read

PERRY TOWNSHIP -- Voters continue to support the township's first responders.

Voters approved the renewal of the 1.5 mills Police and Safety Fund Levy for another five years in Tuesday's election.

According to complete but unofficial results the levy passed by a vote of 518 (78.84%) for and 139 (21.16%) against.

The levy generates approximately $140,000 for the township annually, with the funds being used to purchase necessary safety equipment for the police and fire departments. As this is a renewal rather than a new levy residents will not have to pay any more than they already are.

Perry Township Board of Trustees Chairman Steve Bailey noted in the board's most recent meeting that in years previous when the levy came up for renewal it had passed with rates of 60% or higher in favor, a trend which continued in emphatic fashion.
