LISBON -- Lisbon school officials expressed their sorrow Thursday over the passing of one of their own -- longtime school board member Gary Peruchetti Jr., who passed away unexpectedly Saturday.
Board President T.K. Hiscox opened the meeting by acknowledging the loss to the students, staff, district, board and community, calling him a loyal board member for 27 years.
"He was a good friend of mine, a good friend to everybody," Hiscox said.
A 1964 graduate of Lisbon High School, Peruchetti was serving his seventh term on the board, a seat he had held since 1996, when he passed on.
"Our district has been the fortunate recipient of decades of effort, leadership and service from Mr. Peruchetti. He leaves us with an incredible legacy," Superintendent Joe Siefke said.
A brief description of what was called his "indelible service to the Lisbon school district" noted that he served as school board president from 2006-2008 and was currently Lisbon's representative to the Columbiana County Career and Technical Center, a post he held for 25 years.
"A devoted board member, Mr. Peruchetti served on every board committee during his tenure, most recently serving as chairman for the Legislative/Policy Committee and member of the Athletic/Supplemental/Activities Committee," the description said.
McKinley Elementary School Principal Dan Kemats grew up with Peruchetti's son and said his presence will be missed around the elementary building. He never knew him to ever say anything bad about anyone.
David Anderson Jr./Sr. High School Principal Keith Edenfield also addressed the loss, saying the support he showed will be missed. Athletic Director Kyle Bing echoed the sentiments of all, talking about the immense support he showed to the athletes and coaches.
"He was at every game. He was constantly there for the kids," Bing said.
Peruchetti, 77, still had two and a half years left on his current term, which expires Dec. 31, 2025. As for the future of his now vacant seat, letters of interest can be sent to the Lisbon schools treasurer from May 22 through June 2 at: Jennifer Coldsnow, 317 N.
