HANOVERTON -- The United Local Board of Education accepted 23 donations for a total of $7,803 at its April meeting last week, with 15 of those donations being made to the athletic department in memory of Bob Reeder.
Reeder, a 1975 graduate of United Local, passed away on March 12. He was a longtime supporter of United Local High School athletics. Known as "Coach Reeder" in the Golden Eagle community, Reeder spent many years as an area coach as well as a basketball official.
All together, 28 personnel decisions were passed by the school board. The board approved contracts for the following high school certified staff members: Ethan Blatch, Tyler Gentry, Samuel Mathias, Erica Noel, Sabrina Weber and Rebecca Zeisler. The board also approved contracts for certified middle school staff members Ryan Burd, Rachael Markjohn, Jennifer Russo, Cade Wood, Jordan Wrask as well as certified elementary staff members Jeni Greenawalt, Aimee Marshall, Marina Moffett, Jordan Phillips and Jennifer Spillman. In addition, contracts were approved for classified staff members Leslie Barter, Emily Bradley, Jennifer Clark, Stephanie Cooper-Bickerton, Keith Evans, Susan Kale, Nicole Looman, Joseph Schreffler. Matthew Brooks was hired as a substitute teacher and Kimberly Keyes as a substitute bus driver. In other personnel matters, the board approved contracts for Loretta McLaughlin as assistant treasurer and Danielle Satterfild as superintendent secretary while approving Lyne Mercer as a volunteer at the elementary school and accepting the resignation of Spanish teacher Lindsay Brothers, effective Aug. 7.
In business matters, the board approved to contract ACCESS for internet, wireless, application and voice services as well as the cancellation of the bonds for the treasurer, superintendent and board members in favor of using the district's liability insurance for public officials. The board also approved student accident insurance through Guarantee Trust Life Insurance, the Nutrition Group for operation of food service, a one-year contract with Apptegy for website design and mobile apps support a two-year agreement with the Multi-County Juvenile Attention System to provide educational services to United students housed at Multi-County. The March transportation report and trips and March treasurer's report were approved as well as professional development for a group of staff members at an estimated cost of $8,000, four extra waiver days for staff for dyslexia training and learning planning and enrollment in a Ohio Workers Compensation ratings savings program at the cost of $698 annually. The board passed approval to contract the Educational Service Center of East Ohio for various services. The board agreed to rescind an agreement with the OSBA web-based policy update service.
In other board news, 12 fundraisers received approval as did the football team's request to attend camp July 17-19. Scott Brewer and Kimberly Sheets were approved as choir trip chaperones.
