Goshen’s new fiscal officer sworn in

GOSHEN TOWNSHIP -- Township trustees appointed a new fiscal officer in its meeting Monday.

Lifelong Goshen Township resident Michele Barratt was appointed to the position following the retirement of the prior officeholder of 15 years, Tom Knoedler, which took effect March 31.

Barratt, who had been serving as assistant fiscal officer, is an alumna of Youngstown State University where she earned her bachelor's degree in industrial engineering and attended the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York.

Prior to her appointment Barratt worked as an engineer for two fortune 500 companies and ran a successful small business with upwards of 22 employees for 20 years. Barratt will serve the remainder of Knoedler's unexpired term through November, when she will need to seek election to remain in the position.

Other matters approved included: the creation of a new contracted service account as part of the township's uniform supply contract with Cintas, and the re-allocation of $1,200 from the currently existing uniform allowance account; a proposal to update Police Chief John Calko and Lt. Ryan McBride's computers for $2,428; and a resolution to participate in the Ohio Department of Transportation salt contracts awarded in 2023.

Trustees Chair John Bricker also reminded residents that electric aggregation program notice letters had begun to be distributed, and that if residents did not want to participate, they needed to indicate their preference and return the letters. Unless action is taken residents will automatically be enrolled.

The board of trustees will meet next at 7 p.m. May 8.
