WELLSVILLE -- East Liverpool City Hospital and the Wellsville Community Foundation jointly announced the opening of the ELCH Wellsville Walk-In Clinic. The clinic will provide a variety of medical services for patients with general illnesses and less severe injuries who seek immediate care.

"The clinic is intended for those who need to be seen by a medical provider and cannot wait for an appointment with their primary care provider, or do not have a PCP," said Melissa Snider, Regional Director of Physician Services and Clinic Operations for Prime Healthcare, which operates the hospital.

"Prioritizing the health and wellness of our residents is a gigantic step toward the foundation's goal of improving the quality of life of the people of our beloved village," said Eddie Murphy, foundation president.

Advanced practice providers who staff the clinic will have the ability to prescribe, and routine lab services will be available on-site. Medicare, Medicaid, commercial health insurance and self-pay patients will be accepted.

Days and hours of operation will be Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. with no appointment necessary. Gretchen Nickell, D.O., will serve as the medical director.

The date for a formal grand opening ceremony is to be announced later, said Snider.

The clinic may be contacted by calling 330-362-4799, visiting the eastliverpoolcityhospital.org website or ELCH social media platforms for more information.

The clinic is being created inside the former Central Federal Bank building at 603 Main St., a "landmark building" which was donated to the Wellsville Community Foundation in May 2021.

"The foundation and East Liverpool City Hospital recently entered into a lease agreement to house a medical clinic in the former bank building," said Murphy. She called the clinic "the product of enormous teamwork on the part of Prime Healthcare leadership and the volunteers that comprise our foundation. We are grateful to all who participated in negotiations, trusted the process and are helping to bring the Wellsville clinic to fruition."

Judge Tim McNicol, vice president of the foundation, said it was Peter Russell who initiated contact with Central Federal for donation of the building. Russell, a founder of the foundation but not currently on the board, also solicited a $5,000 donation from Central Federal for repairs.

The facility had been vacant for a couple of years. "It was a very generous donation," said McNicol. "This facility fills a real need. People won't have to leave town to receive healthcare services."

Wellsville Mayor Bob Boley said the new clinic is among exciting new developments in the village. "It's a wonderful thing that we will have a place to go for medical attention with all the COVID and flu that are going around. If I need bloodwork done I'll be able to go there instead of driving. This will bring people into Wellsville from East Liverpool, Salineville and Irondale," he said.

"We are excited to be able to bring services closer to home for our local communities, making accessing health care easier," said Snider. "It has always been a priority of ours to expand our services and to do it in a way that will benefit our community members."

East Liverpool City Hospital is a 152-bed, acute care hospital. Affiliates include East Liverpool Medical Group, East Liverpool Home Health, and East Liverpool Therapy.
