EAST LIVERPOOL -- The National Day of Prayer will be celebrated in East Liverpool Thursday, May 4 with a Prayer Breakfast. These prayer breakfasts began in the community around 40 years ago.
Admittance is by ticket only and the breakfast will be served beginning at 7:30 a.m. with the program to start at 8 a.m. It will be held at the East Liverpool Area Community Center, 110 Maine Blvd., located below the East Liverpool High School. Breakfast will be a buffet catered by Connie's Corner of Chester. The last breakfast was held in the parking lot of the center at the outset of COVID. For two years COVID forced the committee to cancel this public event.
Admission will be by ticket only bought in advance. A few tickets are available at $10 each. Tickets can be purchased from committee members, at area churches and at the community center. Committee members are Pastors Ernest and Shannon Peachey, John and Sue Richman, Ginny Jackson, Charles Lang, Pastors Mike Dyer, Greg Mead and the late Mike Ross. Plans for the Prayer Breakfast have been underway since December 2022.
John Richman will serve as Master of Ceremonies. Local businessman and St. Clair Township Trustee James Sabatini will deliver a welcome. The Tri-State Burial Group will present the colors and the Christian School Praise Team and soloist Jim Herring will provide music.
Michael B. Ross, founder of Mainstream Life Solutions, author, podcaster, and coach, will replace his father as the main speaker for the event.
New this year will be recognition of two outstanding local individuals who have served citizens for many years. Columbiana County Engineer Bert Dawson continues to serve the county including the East Liverpool community, having done so through many terms as an elected official spanning 53 years. Dawson has been responsible for the transportation system benefiting all residents. Columbiana County Port Authority Executive Director Penny Traina will present the Community Service Award to Dawson.
Committee Chairman Pastor Ernest Peachy will present a Christian Ministries Award posthumously to the late Pastor Mike Ross, who was founder of Hope Christian Fellowship Ministries. He was a visionary, spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ both locally and in Africa. As a result, many responded to that Gospel and believed in Jesus Christ for salvation. Mike and his wife Karen were short-term missionaries to Africa making many trips there, spearheading programs that are still benefiting many Africans.
Others involved in offering prayers for specific needs will be Pastors Larry Rose, Ernest Peachy, Mike Dyer, Greg Mead and Committee member Charles Lang.
After the program in the morning, the community is invited to gather on the steps of City Hall for a brief service praying for the City of East Liverpool. No tickets are required to attend, just a desire to pray for God's blessings on the community, its leaders and citizens. Pastors participating are Lisa Smith, James Massie, Jeff Smith and others.
