LISBON -- Columbiana County Commissioner Mike Halleck said Wednesday he planned to talk with some state legislators regarding a proposal to increase the monthly 911 fee charged to cell phone users.
The fee for cell phones has been 25 cents for many years, but there's now a proposal to increase the fee to 64 cents.
"That's a pretty small price to pay to have insurance from your cell phone," Halleck said.
He was going to Columbus after the commissioners' meeting.
In other business, the commissioners approved the Miller's Place Cluster Housing Plat submitted by developer Chuck Beiling, referring the plat to county Engineer Bert Dawson for his acceptance. Commissioner Tim Weigle said the county Planning Commission approved two variances for the development, one to divide the plan into eight lots for eight duplexes instead of four larger lots. The other was to approve a T-shaped turnaround, with plans to continue the road in the future for more development.
Miller's Place Cluster Housing developing is located off of Hunters Camp Road in Center Township.
Commissioners awarded the contract for the Meadowbrook Circle/Calcutta Acres sanitary sewer improvements project to low bidder Eclipse Co., LLC of Chagrin Falls for $225,320. Other bidders were X-Press Underground for $292,851, Yarian Brothers Construction for $349,745 and J.S. Bova Excavating LLC for $368, 236.
Arthur Conser of Columbiana was appointed as the apiary inspector for the county for $1,000 and no hearing was requested for a liquor license request for S&M Fuel, St. Clair Township.
A resolution was approved for an American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) expense of $358,494 for six sheriff's office vehicles from Tim Lally Chevrolet.
For the county Department of Job and Family Services, the commissioners approved a new cleaning contract with Brilliant Cleaning Service LLC from April 28, 2023 to April 30, 2024 with a $41,500 ceiling. An agreement was approved with Thompson Park for the Summer Healthy Activity Project for family pool passes for sixth, seventh and eighth graders from Wellsville, East Liverpool and Southern Local Middle Schools from May 1, 2023 to Sept. 5, 2023 with a ceiling of $120,150.
The commissioners also approved an amendment to the contract with the sheriff's office and commissioners to provide after-hours support and crisis telephone response services, changing the procedure to forward the referral from a call within one hour of receiving it.
The next commissioners' meeting will be 9 a.m. April 26 at the downtown courthouse.
