Salem Music Club

SALEM -- The last regular meeting of 2022-2023 for the Salem Music Club will be held at 7 p.m., Wednesday April 26.

The meeting will be held in the Emmanuel Lutheran Church educational building along South Broadway Avenue.

Discussions will include next year officers, scholarship auditions and a program by Peggy Elliott.

Her program will be about classical music. Refreshments will follow.

The Salem Music Study Club was organized in 1924 in Salem and is one of the clubs still standing in the area and will celebrate its 100th anniversary next year..

Dinner fundraiser

HOMEWORTH --A spaghetti supper fundraiser will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the Middle Sandy Presbyterian Church, 4306 Homeworth Road.

the dinner will benefit the Homeworth Community Playground. The dinner is drive up carry out only for a donation. The meal includes spaghetti and meatballs, bread, salad and dessert.

Winona USAF Thunderbirds

WINONA -- A power point presentation and "looking behind the scenes" talk by former USAF Thunderbirds demonstration team member and United High School graduate, retired Master Sergeant Carey Shoff will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 30 at the Winona Area Historical Society Museum.

The WAHS 1895 meeting house is located at the corner of Cameron Street and Winona Road.

A meet-and-greet, refreshments and open Winona Area Historical Society Museum will be held after the program. Both buildings have ramp access. The public is invited to attend.

Potato Bake fundraiser

CANFIELD -- Community Day Camp of North Lima will hold a loaded potato bake fundraiser from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., Sunday, April 30 at Paradise Church, 10020 New Buffalo Road.

Attendees can build baked potatoes at the toppings bar. Side dishes include bread, desserts and a drink. Cost is by donation with proceeds to benefit Community Day Camp, which will be July 31-Aug 4 at Mt. Olivet UCC.

Salem Library waiving fines

SALEM -- During National Library Week, April 23-29, the Salem Public Library will waive overdue fines, new or old, for its patrons that visiting the library.

Fees for lost or damaged items will be reduced by half as long as a patron fully pays for those items during National Library Week.

National Library Week

LISBON -- Lepper Library is observing National Library Week, April 23-29. Those using a library card this week will receive a gift. There will be daily trivia games for a small prize.

Haldi to speak at Minerva Library

MINERVA -- The Minerva Public Library will present local historian Richard Haldi at 6:30 p.m., Monday, May 1.

He will discuss Stark County's Interurban Era in the Community Meeting Room. For 40 years clean, efficient electricity was the source of power for Stark County's public transportation system that connected local communities to the state and the nation. Then suddenly, this fabulous transportation system vanished forever, practically overnight. This illustrated program is of interest to all ages and is presented free of charge with support from the library's Gaye Powell Fund.

National Day of Prayer

SALEM --The 17th annual Salem Area National Day of Prayer observance will begin at noon on Thursday, May 4 at the Salem Memorial Building, 785 E. State Street.

This year's theme is "Pray Fervently in Righteousness and Avail Much." The program will include a presentation of the flag and pledge, a proclamation for the City of Salem, musical selections, and scripture and prayer by both pastors and laymen. The eight areas of prayer are government, military, media, business, education, church, family and safety forces/health

The event will also be broadcast on the Salem National Day of Prayer website at praysalem.org and on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram at Pray Salem. It will also be aired on cable channel 1021 later in the day or evening. The event is open to the public.

The National Day of Prayer is always held on the first Thursday of May. The tradition of the National Day of Prayer originated with the Continental Congress in 1775 and in 1789 President George Washington stated, "It is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God." In 1988, it was legislated by Congress and signed by President Ronald Reagan.
