EP hydrant flushing

The East Palestine Water Department will be flushing hydrants starting the week of April 24. Residents will experience low pressure/or discolored water throughout the week until completion.

EL Finance, Public Utilities

The East Liverpool Finance and Public Utilities committees will hold a joint meeting at 5 p.m. Tuesday in council chambers. The agenda will include discussion of a water rate increase, reinstating the Board of Public Utilities and a proposal by RITA regarding taking over the city's income tax department. A Streets/Lands and Buildings Committee meeting will follow at 5:30 p.m.

Community breakfast

Damascus United Methodist Church and Middle Sandy Presbyterian Church will hold their monthly community breakfast from 7 to 10:30 a.m. April 15 at the Damascus church, 300 Valley Road. The breakfast features all-you-can-eat, made to order, pancakes, eggs, sausage, bacon, toast, juice and coffee for a donation. Proceeds will benefit the upcoming 2023 Summer Mission Trip to Camden, N.Y., to work with Cluster 13 Ministries.

Grow a Butterfly Garden

The Beaver Creek Wildlife Education Center will host a program on how to Grow a Butterfly Garden from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. under the pavilion. Guests will learn how to plant a garden that attracts butterflies and other pollinators, which plants host the different stages of these beneficial and beautiful creatures, where to purchase plants locally, how to collect seeds, and how to plant them. Participants will receive some sample plants and seeds. This activity is suitable for adults and children over the age of 12. Space is limited. Wine and Wildlife

The Beaver Creek Wildlife Education Center will hold its annual Wine and Wildlife fund raising event from 6 to 9 p.m. April 29. Invitations must be requested and registration is required. The event will include a tour of the building, displays, grounds, and gardens along with a variety of hors d'oeuvres, desserts and Ohio wines. A schedule of the 2023 season's special programs and weekend events will be available. Spring Wildflower Hike

Beaver Creek Wildlife Education Center volunteers Cheryl Mattevi and Eileen Dray-Bardon will present a Spring Wildflower Hike from 9 to 11 a.m. April 15. Meet in the parking lot at 12021 Echo Dell Road, East Liverpool. The trail ranges from gentle to moderately steep and may be muddy. Dress for the weather, wear sturdy shoes and bring a walking stick and insect repellent if so choosing. The hike will be canceled if there is a downpour. Registration is required by emailing contact information to beavercreekw@aol.com.

Pasta dinner fundraiser

The Calcutta Lions Club will hold its annual pasta dinner fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 30 at the Calcutta Fire Department. Tickets are $12. Dinner includes pasta, meatballs, salad and roll. This is take-out only. Contact Joe Hall at 330-932-9185 or Janet Christen at 330-853-4882 or venmo @sharon43920. Tickets will then be mailed.

Water bill assistance

The Ohio Department of Development and the Community Action Agency of Columbiana County Inc. will help income-eligible Ohioans with water and wastewater assistance. The Low-Income Household Water Assistance Program provides eligible Ohioans assistance paying water and wastewater bills. The program has been extended until Sept. 30. At this time, all application interviews are being held at the agency, 7860 Lincole Place, Lisbon. Applicants must currently be disconnected, have a disconnect notice, establishing new service, or transferring service. Clients must be a resident of Columbiana County. The bill must be in a household member's name. If the bill is in the landlord's name, a document of responsibility will be needed. Applicants will be required to provide the following documents: a list of all household members and proof of income for the last 30 days or 12 months for each member over age 18; most recent water and/or wastewater bill; proof of citizenship or legal residency; birth date and social security numbers for all household members; and proof of disability, if applicable.
